Karl Bräuer

Karl Bräuer (1881–1971) attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna from 1894 to 1904, where he then worked from 1913. He was active for the Wiener Werkstätte in the atelier of Josef Hoffmann in 1905–20, before joining the firm C. Geyling’s Erben, which still manufactures glass mosaics and windows today. He also took part in two jubilee exhibitions of arts and furniture in 1908 (the ‘Jubiläums-Möbel-Ausstellung’ and ‘Kunstschau’), and built a house in the nineteenth district of Vienna in 1930–31. At the Werkbund Estate, Bräuer furnished house no. 18 by the architects Karl Augustinus Bieber and Otto Niedermoser.
