Karl Hofmann

Karl Hofmann (1890–?) studied from 1908 to 1914 at the Technische Hochschule in Vienna under Karl Mayreder, Karl König, Max Fabiani, and Franz Krauß. In 1922, he set up an atelier with Felix Augenfeld, which survived until the pair’s emigration in 1938. Hofmann’s work focussed on interior design, as was the case at the Werkbund Estate, where he and Augenfeld furnished house no. 13 from Oskar Strnad. As is particularly apparent in his buildings for the so-called Weekend Movement, Hofmann was skilled at designing small spaces, which, along with his furnishings, always show a certain elegance.
