Otto Niedermoser

Otto Niedermoser (1903–76) trained as an upholsterer before studying at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna from 1917 to 1922, where he was taught by Rosalia Rothansl, Josef Frank, Josef Hoffmann, and Oskar Strnad. After working as Strnad’s assistant for two years, he attended the masterclass of Peter Behrens at the Akademie der bildenden Künste from 1925 to 1928. Niedermoser was appointed assistant to Carl Witzmann at the Kunstgewerbeschule in 1930, where he later became professor in 1936. At the Werkbund Estate, he designed houses nos. 17–18 together with Karl Augustinus Bieber, and furnished no. 17 himself. Niedermoser, who had his own atelier, also worked for the theatre and film industry. As an architect, he always strived to improve living conditions for inhabitants.
