Josef F. Dex

The Linz architect Josef F. Dex (1899–1945) trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Linz under Matthias May and at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna under Peter Behrens. In 1941, he emigrated to New York and set up his own company, ‘Josef Dex, Interior Designer’. Dex was active primarily as an interior and furniture designer, also publishing several articles in specialist journals. His houses at the Vienna Werkbund Estate (nos. 65–66), which he furnished himself, are his only known architectural works.
