Arthur Grünberger

Arthur Grünberger (1882–1935) studied in Vienna under Karl König and Karl Mayreder at the Technische Hochschule (1899–1905), and then under Friedrich Ohmann at the Akademie der bildenden Künste. He was active as an independent architect from 1913, but changed profession in 1926 to work as an artist and set designer for the film industry in Hollywood. From his new base in America, he designed houses nos. 63–64 for the Werkbund Estate, the interiors of which were the work of the architect Ernst Lichtblau. Along with Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler, Grünberger was one of the few architects to emigrate to America in the inter-war period.
