Karl Augustinus Bieber

Karl Augustinus Bieber (1903–96) trained as a carpenter (1921–23) and then studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna (1923–27) under Oskar Strnad. He subsequently worked for Fritz Becker at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf (1928–30), before serving as an artistic advisor to the Dutch firm Philips in Eindhoven (1930–39). Later he became artistic director of the Werkbund Exhibition in Cologne (1949), director of the department for manual and industrial form at the Werkkunstschule in Braunschweig (until 1953), director of the Staatliche Kunstschule in Bremen (1953–59), and finally professor at the Technische Hochschule in Graz (1961–73). The internationally renowned designer was responsible for houses nos. 17–18 at the Vienna model estate, which he planned together with Otto Niedermoser,
