Richard Bauer

Richard Bauer (1897–?) studied in Vienna at the Staatsgewerbeschule in 1912–15, and then at the Akademie der bildenden Künste under Franz Krauß in 1919–20. It was here, too, that he attended Clemens Holzmeister’s classes in 1932–33. He was architectural director of the GESIBA (Public Utility Settlement and Building Material Corporation) from 1927 until 1938, when he emigrated to the USA. Bauer, whose position at the GESIBA made him responsible for the technical planning and organisation of the Werkbund Estate, also designed houses nos. 6–7, and furnished house no. 6.
